Astrophytum
Astrophytum is a highly sought after genus of compact, slow growing cacti known for their striking star shaped form, and distinctive speckled patterns. Often called Star Cactus or Bishop's Cap, these sculptural plants are prized by collectors for their symmetrical ribs, soft wolly areoles, and large stunning blooms.
Native to arid regions of Mexico and parts of the southern United States, Astrophytum species thrive in bright light, free draining soil and dry conditions. Their unique white flecking helps reflect sunlight in their natural desert habitat, giving them their characteristic frosted appearance.
Cultured varieties (cv) are specifically bred for outstanding shapes, patterns and flowers. With each new generation of seedlings producing even more amazing and unique astrophytum plants.
Some can be a little challenging to grow, but well worth the effort.
