Melocactus

Melocactus, commonly known as the Turk's Cap Cactus, is one of the most distincitive and fascinating genera in the cactus world. Native to the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and northern South America, these unique globular cacti are instantly recognised by their wolly, colourful crown called a cephalium.

Unlike most cacti, Melocactus undergoes a dramatic transformation at maturity. Once established, the plant stops growing in size and produces a striking red, orange, or pink cephalium from which small flowers and fruit emerge. This unusual growth habit makes Melocactus highly collectable and a true conversation piece in any cactus collection.
